Congratulations to all the boys who ran at the state meet held at EIU in Charleston. There were many positive results all around, including a 50.61 effort by
Chris Lance in the 400 meter dash and a 4:31.97 effort by sophomore
Matt Vermeersch. Matt's effort was a lifetime best by nearly seven seconds, and it put him just out of reach of Saturday's state finals, as Matt placed 13th when 12 spots qualified for Saturday. In addition, the frosh/soph 4x400 team of
George Wayda,
Josh Cornett,
J.C. Dickinson, and
Taylor Ray ran a time of 3:43.22, which is a new frosh/soph best at
Pleasant Plains High School.
Senior
Chris Lance also put himself in a great position to make a run at the state title in the long jump on Thursday. Chris's jump of 22'6 1/2" puts him behind only Herrin's Zach Riley in the state. Good luck to Chris, who will be the sole Cardinal competing at the state final meet on Saturday.
